First we want to share that we use Firefox and Thunderbird as our default browser and email client respectively. The biggest reason why we use them is , that we have created user profiles for both programs in NON-ROOT drive (non C:/) to save the data even if we have to format the ROOT drive for windows reinstall or upgrade…

We simply install new windows, install firefox and thunderbird and give them custom path to already existing profiles and wow, everything is just there, bookmarks, passwords, history,, extensions, themes, emails, email accounts configured….

In short it is cool method to avoid dirt work again and again after window crash :-)

But here is the problem, until now it was all fine, we just got VISTA to some computers,
and damn our cool profile method was not working in VISTA… it was showing very long error
dialog box saying something like this:

Could not initialize the browser’s security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your browser’s profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the browser and fix the problem. If you continue to use this browser session, you might see incorrect browser behavior when accessing security features.”

We just fired the google and start searching for the solution. We found many tips,
and they did not work but the last , so i am going to share each in the sequnce so anyone
can follow easily:

1. Make sure profile folder and files are NOT set to READ-ONLY. Right click
the any folder or file and you will see a check box checked as READ-ONLY, uncheck it!

If this does not solve the problem move to second step..
2. Make sure cert8.db file is not set to READ-ONLY

3. If above does not solve the problem delete the cert8.db file (as it may have corrupted!)

4. All above methods did not solve my problem!, so I have to edit the Permissions for each
folder and file, to do this simply Right Click the Main folder which consists your profiles files,
and click PROPERTIES, in coming window click the SECURITY tab, and here you have all
permissions to be reset, make sure to CHECK all boxes in ALLOW column for the user you
are logged in to your computer. And it will completely solve the error :-)

Best,
